With the end of the 2006 competitive season, several of the “Seagulls” gymnasts have decided not to take a break during the summer, and are continuing their training, and are attending summer gymnastics camps in the area in order to improve their skills, form and presentation. Coach Tobler remarked, “Now that these young gymnasts have experienced a taste of what it takes to compete at a national level, they have shown a desire to push themselves even harder, to improve personally and overcome their individual adversities in order to achieve their goals, both in the sport of gymnastics and life.” Coach John Tobler is a 3-time All American Gymnast and holds World Champion titles in the high-dive and acrobatic dive. John is head coach and owner of Tobler Gymnastics, located in Clearwater, MN. John and his personally trained staff have trained several national and world gymnastics champions, including one Olympic champion. John was also featured on “ABC’s Wide World of Sports” television series opening credits as the “Thrill of Victory…” cliff diver in Acapulco, Mexico. John has, for several years, offered area youth his gymnastics classes through Big Lake Community Education, and at other metro Community Education locations. When John relocated his gymnastics club to its current location, many of the Big Lake area Community Education gymnasts followed to continue to train at his new facility. Helping Coach Tobler at AAU Nationals were assistant coaches Mike Erickson and Ben Tobler. 2007 AAU Nationals are tentatively scheduled to be held in Tampa, Florida. Midwest Amateur Gymnastics Association (MAGA) state competition this April. Tobler Gymnastics team members are not resting now that state competitions are done. They’re working harder than ever preparing for the AAU National Qualifiers at the end of April, to be held in Pine Island, MN, and the upcoming “Star of The North Games”, also in Pine Island. John says that approximately twenty area gymnasts have registered for the qualifying event, with hopes to compete at the 2006 AAU National Gymnastics Finals held in Rochester, MN. Many team members competed at last year’s AAU National Finals that were held at Disney World’s Wide World of Sports complex, in Orlando, Fl. Helping John at Division 7 were assistant coaches Mike Erickson and Heidi Tobler.
